WINTER

there is a sign if you look

the trees are spelling it out

telling us to have faith in her

even when no one’s around

roots that have formed below

will rise above ground

SPRING

she said the sun is forgiving at this time

as the light thins out and stretches

t h r o u g h

we are left with a softness,

a tree’s shade

a sense of growth

a blanket of grey

SUMMER

the grey begins to dim

the land left to dry

it feels like forever

as days turn to night

parched and scarred again

is the end in sight?

FALL

the sun has diffused

as clouds roll in again

please, rain stay for now

so we can make it to the end

giving the ground what it needs

as it falls from the leaves

it spells out friend

the downpours used to frequent

back when we were kids

but like any fading memory

we’ll have to wait again
